Juno is delighted to feature six new works from Stuart Herd, truly amazing paintings considering the severity of his accident he has worked on despite the impairment to his sight the work is exquisite. These works are now on exhibition in the gallery.

Exhibiting artists :
Stuart Herd & George Muir

George Muir achieved her Degree from Edinburgh College of Art in Interior Design since leaving college she has worked as an art therapist. Currently she is working for several mental health charities in and around Edinburgh. Working from her Studio in Edinburgh she also devotes time to her own work exhibiting her paintings in galleries throughout the UK. .

She grew up in Wanlockhead, a small village in the Lowther Hills of Dumfries and Galloway. The area she grew up in has been the source of inspiration for her work; her paintings are full of drama & atmosphere & isolation. Her work often reflects a strong sense of place her fascination for architectural form, industry & construction is evident, one feature prominent in this exhibition is the lighthouse & its many connotations of strength, solitude, magnificence & wonder. George captures the dynamic energy & tension that the images in her paintings generate as they negotiate their relationship to their surroundings.

’I remember there being a very strong sense of community there, small as it was. Due to its location it was at times very exposed to and at the mercy of wild winters and there were power cuts and times of isolation, when the roads were closed, to me this meant many things including adventure and isolation...and a particular importance, investment and identity surrounding the home....I can remember the magic and wonder of playing at my Grans house.....climbing up the ladder to the attic, playing with her numerous boxes of trinkets that she loved to hoard....these memories are very special to me’

Stuart Herd is inspired by the varied and dramatically changing landscape of his country – Scotland.

He was born in Scotland in 1971, and after growing up in England and briefly attending Amersham College of Art he started a career in photography in the South East whilst regularly travelling north to Scotland to explore and capture the landscapes.

His photographic career was varied, from Studio and Commercial photography to Press and Lab work around the UK. During this time his love of travel was born and he combined this by working as a photographer onboard cruiseships, aswell as ’character making’ independent solo trips worldwide.

In the mid 90’s he returned to Scotland and whilst living in Edinburgh he started producing highly detailed Pen & Ink cityscapes and scenes. Galleries started showing his work and his art career had taken over. At this time he also started his Stadium portfolio, which now showcases over 30 sporting arenas across Europe.
