Nikki Monaghan
A bit about me! " I studied at the Scottish College of Textiles and over the years I have worked as an interior stylist, designer, community based artist and artist. I have had the joy of painting full time now for 12 years and I now work from my studio in Falkirk.
My subject matter ranges from landscapes and seascapes to quirky birds and figures. I love colour and my paintings evolve by layering up acrylics and oil pastels, creating textures within my paintings. Working from memory allows my work to take on a stylised abstract feel.
I am influenced by the Scottish landscape where there is a never ending source of inspiration. Landscapes become fabrics of texture highlighted by the excitement of colour and a narrative feel comes into play with the naive figures and animals that appear within my art.
Often a starting point can be a colour which provokes a feeling that I want the viewer to take on...the subjects in the artwork then follow. My painting palette ranges from bright and happy to soft and subtle. This can be inspired by a memory of a particular place or the stimulating day to day that takes effect through my art.
I exhibit in galleries throughout the UK and sell privately overseas.”
